An excellent shot!

We’ve always thought that being able to capture a great photograph came from being a great shot. Dad did his National Service in the RAF and he looked back on those days very fondly. He showed great skill at shooting and was selected for competitions.

He always referred to himself very proudly as a “Bisley shot”. The term refers to someone who has excelled at shooting competitions held at National Shooting Centre, Bisley – the historic home of British target shooting. Bisley has been the centre of rifle shooting competitions in the UK since the 1890s.

He was very proud to represent his unit and go on to win a shooting competition at RAF Bisley 9th June 1958, 400 yds SRA .303 Rifle Competition Final First Prize.
